Tale of a Utah Backcountry Ski Tour

Posted in Articles on October 21st, 2006

OK we’re ready to blog another GravityFed Network classic story. Ever heard of The Angry Little Man of the Wasatch? HaHa.. Not even sure what Alex is up to these days, but he’s a legendary Little Cottonwood Canyon ripper (and drummer!).

Just one of many stories submitted by the ski bums of the Wasatch mountains of Utah, this story is Alex’s excellent account of a day in the Backcountry with good friends and damn good adventure.. “…it was starting to get late now and we were all very tired, but nobody was whining and, more importantly, nobody was loosing his cool.”

Outdoor Directory GravityDex Still Kickin’

Posted in Daily Grind on October 21st, 2006

You may have seen this site before. It’s been around for a long time. In fact, it was probably one of the web’s first outdoor-specific directories, launched in 1999. It’s part of the GravityFed Network of sites. The same guys that built GravityDex, have recently been giving a lot of love to the new OGE (Outdoor Gear Engine Dot Com) search/comparison engine. We’re all about the gear.

So basically, just wanted to bring this outdoor directory some attention. It deserves it. Although the look and feel of the site hasn’t changed in ages (it’s very out of date- no fancy CSS or web 2.0 design here!) it consistently receives un-solicited listings to the tune of at least a dozen a week! Pretty cool. Check in on it now, and then in a few weeks again…cuz ‘The Dex’ is getting a face lift!

SAC’s New Look

Posted in Daily Grind on October 19th, 2006

Are you a SAC addict yet? A lot of us have been from time to time. I even bought three headlamps once which made three great holiday gifts. They were 7 smackers each. Delivered to my door for 28 smackers…the cost of one of those headlamps retail.

I am sure you’ve heard of SAC. It’s likely the best deal of the day site on the web for outdoor gear. Owned and operated by Backcountry.com. Well they have a brand spankin’ new SteepandCheap.com site. Real nice lookin’.. And I think it’s also ‘bottomless’ now as well. Which means that once a product runs out a stock a new one gets placed into the mix.

While other online gear stores have DOTD features, SAC seems to offer the lowest discount consistantly. As far as quality product, well it often seems that the higher the mark down the less popular the program…but not always.

Over and out.

Extreme Skiing: Julian Carr is ‘Person as Projectile’

Posted in Daily Grind on October 16th, 2006

You’ve probably heard the name Julian Carr mentioned in the freeski press over the last few ski seasons. He’s been gettin’ a lot of mention for his huge cliff drops. Not unlike Jamie Pierre’s skiing, these stunts come with widespread criticism. Take a look at this self-narrated YouTube clip from Julian. Calculated or crazy? Whatever your opinion, he’s pullin’ it off and he’s probably made himself a living / career as the latest ski-lebrity in the process.

Moosejaw.com Launches New Affiliate Program

Posted in Industry News on October 10th, 2006

OK, we already mentioned this news here. However we think it’s important to mention it again! This new program is alive and kickin’. ANYONE who owns an outdoor-themed site with traffic and search engine reach should integrate some links through the Moosejaw.com Affiliate program. We have yet to see a program convert like they do. Apparently they have some kind of spell on customers, and also a community profile on a very popular site. Great group of people!

There was a syndicated press release about this new outdoor affiliate program on PRWeb.com just a couple of days ago.

The actual article was dugg, too: “Moosejaw Madness web store has launched a new Affiliate program with AvantLink. That’s right…If you have outdoor oriented web content you want to make use of and monetize, adding Moosejaw to the mix through RSS feeds or banners from AvantLink will earn you some cashola.” DO-It :)
