REI to Outfit Outdoor Enthusiasts with New Store

Seattle, WA, Jun 22, 2010 – REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.), a retail co-op providing quality outdoor gear and apparel, announced plans to open a new store at Columbia Crossing in Columbia, Maryland later this year.

The 24,000 square-foot store will equip customers and members with gear and apparel from the top brands for camping, climbing, cycling, fitness, hiking, paddling, snow sports and travel, including the award-winning REI brand. The new store will feature a bike shop for quick assemblies or repairs, a gear rental department to explore new activities, and a community space for the co-op and its non-profit partners to host outdoor-related classes, events and presentations.

Cloudveil Co-founder Resigns

Jackson, WY, Feb 23, 2010 – Cloudveil, producer of mountain apparel, announces the resignation of Co-founder/President Stephen Sullivan. Sullivan leaves Cloudveil clothing after almost thirteen years to pursue personal interests.

Sullivan has overseen Cloudveil’s product, marketing, sales and retail divisions through the course of the company’s history, starting the company with Co-founder Brian Cousins in 1997 out of a tiny 400 square-foot office in downtown Jackson, and building it into one of the top outdoor apparel brands.

“My resignation from Cloudveil was submitted in late January as I was made aware that there would be a change in ownership,” explained Sullivan. “Although the last 13 years have been extremely rewarding, I decided that it was simply time for me to take a step back and re-evaluate both personal and professional objectives.”

CHAOS Full Line Up of Events

Steamboat Springs, CO, November 20, 2009 – This season sales are up for Chaos. Nationwide grassroots programs prove to be a large part of the solution. With a spokesperson, a core snow team and eleven event programs Chaos Headwear is positioned for more distribution.

Eleven events nationwide allow the brand to be invested locally, building deeper retail relations regionally. The events focus on all snow sports including, downhill skiing, snowboarding, snow camps for kids, film festivals, telemark and nordic. Partnerships are far reaching and also contribute to Iraq and Afghanistan veteran ski programs, and a year-round outreach group that teaches outdoor sports to kids with less advantages. Below are all the programs in detail.

  • Windell Camp – Chaos is the official beanie for Windell’s for the fifth year. Windells’ is the premier training ground camp for the world’s best athletes in snowboarding, freeskiing, skateboard and BMX.
  • Teton Gravity Research – TGR is the premier action sports entertainment and production house for intense winter skiing and snowboarding. Chaos headwear has partnered with TGR films as the official Headwear sponsor for five years running. Chaos has partnered for 15 film venues in nationwide mountain and college towns.

Rock/Creek Raises $5,000 for The Boonies

Chattanooga, TN, June 1, 2009 – Specialty outdoor retailer Rock/Creek announced a $5,000 donation for The Boonies, the latest in a string of donations stemming from the Rock/Creek Trail Series. The Boonies will use the money to help run future events as well as secure access to single track trails. These funds came from last Saturday morning’s third annual Scenic City Trail Marathon and Half Marathon. Other contributing sponsors include SmartWool, Marmot, The North Face, and Hammer Nutrition.

Threatening clouds and rain held off just long enough for the finishers to come across the line. The race took place on the trails around TVA’s Raccoon Mountain Pumped Storage Facility. Compared to 2008, the race saw 25% growth in half marathon runners and 62% growth in marathon runners.

Proceeds from both events go to The Wilderness Trail Running Association (aka The Boonies) and will be used for future trail races, trail maintenance, and sustainability efforts in the Cumberland and Southern Appalachian Mountains.

2008 Tele PowWow

Bretton Woods, NH — New England Telemark is excited to announce Tele Pow Wow 2008, a landmark event taking place at the Bretton Woods Ski Area on March 22, 2008. This is a youth telemark event which will take place alongside the popular NET Reggae Party.

This combined telemark festival will feature free clinics taught by some of New England’s finest telemark instructors. In addition to a special lesson just for kids, there will be clinics for all abilities including special ‘cross-over’ clinics for the alpine skier, clinics for women taught by women, and clinics for experts.

Tele Pow Wow 2008 takes the typical telemark festival to a whole ‘nother level with its own special vibe, access to an extensive kids demo fleet, a kids only ‘Tele Tribe’ posse in the afternoon, and culminating with a special kids raffle of kid-sized telemark skis, boots, bindings, and clothing.

The event will also kick off efforts to recruit interested New England youth for a ‘Tele Tribe – New England’ program for the 2008-09 season.

“Returning home after ten years out West, I’ve been extremely fortunate to hook up with New England Telemark this season as they emphasize youth telemark,” relates Mike Sharp, Tele Pow Wow organizer and founder of PC Telemark and the first Tele Tribe in Park City, Utah. “NET has the largest and most modern kids telemark demo fleet around and a proven track record for telemark events. This is the perfect storm for creation of a Tele Tribe in New England.”
